Monkeybird - Ex-Voto

Created in 2012, the Monkey Bird Crew (MBC) collective is made up of two young artists from Bordeaux, Temor and Blow the Bird (or The Blow).

Stencil artists, known for their precision and refined cut, completely handmade, they specialize in metaphysical architectural representations where Bird (« Blow ») and Monkey(« Temor ») coexist.

Inspired by geometry, mechanics, cosmology and astronomy, they develop their work by using many types of mediums, illumination and calligraphy. Moreover, they have the obsession of including an animal presence on walls of cities. These animals, aren't very different from the famous children fables, and playfully sends us back to our human preoccupations, midway between freedom of desire and elevation (symbolized by Bird) and the material/corporal obsessions, from which man can't cut loose.

They've put a lot into city walls of (Paris where they live, Lille, Bordeaux but also Amsterdam, New Delhi, several cities in Mexico), they also produce works on several other recovered mediums such as wood, metal, glass and paper.

Vernissage: Thursday 23 January 2020, from 18:00 - 21:00, open to the public.

In presence of the artists.

Cope2 - Nature of an Icon

Gallery 1:1 proudly presents Cope2, one of the most iconic graffiti writers from the Bronx NYC.

Even if you don’t know anything about Graffiti, you probably have seen his bubble letters in collaboration with brands like Adidas, Alife or Obey. His work has been exhibited around the globe.

A true legend.

___

Fernando Carlo (known as Cope2) (South Bronx, New York) is a graffiti artist from the Kingsbridge. Though he is known worldwide, he didn't receive recognition in the graffiti world until the mid 1990's. He has been painting since 1978, and has gained international credit for his work. He and his crew "Kings Destroy" (formerly "Kids Destroy," or simply KD) are the main focus of the graffiti movie "Kings Destroy". Cope2 has been one of the main targets of the New York City Vandal Squad and has been arrested for vandalism, theft and drug charges. The arrest followed the release of a 272 page book of his work titled "Cope 2: True Legend" Cope2 started writing graffiti in the late 70's , his cousin Chico 80 introduced Cope into writing and it ran in the family. He made his own crew called Kids Destroy and eventually it changed to Kings Destroy after he dubbed himself king of the 4 line.

We are excited to invite you to

STICK's Solo Show - LOST ‘N’ FOUND

Vernissage / Opening: 17th of July 18:00-21:00

31, rue de Strasbourg - Luxembourg Gare

About Stick:

His first experiments with spray paint date back to 1993, but it wasn't until 1995 that he began painting the letters STICK. That's the time when he really became active and started taking his passion seriously. From 1998 till 2003 he studied visual art, lived and painted in Brussels, but then returned to live in the Grand Duchy.

His studio work, on canvas or on different objects, is a logical continuation of his street work.

What Stick presents here is a more detailed work, where the lettering is not the main focus any more but uses graffiti as a language and plays with its forms and lines. He has a way of designing graffiti, which sometimes led him to abstract compositions.

God Loves Science (and Other Inconvenient Truths)

Dave The Chimp

Dave the Chimp has been riding skateboards since the mid 1980's, painting on found wood and making fanzines since the mid 1990's, and working in the streets since 1998.

He still does all these things, as well as exhibiting his art in galleries and museums world wide, working as an illustrator for a variety of clients, directing pop videos, compiling books, and curating exhibitions. Dave has exhibited alongside the leading names in the urban art scene, including Banksy, Blu, Miss Van, Swoon, Os Gemeos, Shepard Fairey, Space Invader, and Zevs. He was the first UK artist to have his own artist model shoe created by Vans, and a book of his work (Part Of Rebellion 2 - Dave the Chimp) was published by Publikat in 2009.

Solo Exhibition

¨God Loves Science (and Other Inconvenient Truths)¨

May 7th 2019 at Gallery 1:1 - 31, rue de Strasbourg

We are super pleased to announce that Dave the Chimp will have his own solo exhibition here at Gallery 1:1! During our Grand Opening in presence of the artist, we showed his work and people quickly became fans and due to popular demand it only made sense to have Dave the Chimp do his own solo here with us at 1:1. The spirit of his exhibition as the title already gives away, will have a science feel to it and that’s all we will say for now.

Save the date and stay tuned!
